Make a good first impression: don’t be late!

As the saying goes, a first impression can often be a lasting one. Therefore when you make contact with a new client for the first time, it’s imperative that everything goes to plan.

We keep hearing that business confidence is on the up and the economy is on the rise. With this in mind, you can expect the number of opportunities to meet and greet new contacts will also increase over the next 12 months.

The last thing you want to happen is for those chances to expand to slip through your fingers, through no fault of your own. However, if you are relying on public transport to get from one meeting to another, you certainly run the risk of this happening.

This infographic below demonstrates just how unreliable taking the train can be, with rail delays alone costing the UK economy £1 billion every year.

Maybe it’s time to take a different approach. While it’s still good practice to meet face to face from time to time, there’s no reason why you can’t limit the chance of turning up to your get-together red-faced and out of breath because you’ve had to sprint the last 100 metres after the train you caught was ten minutes late.

Instead, why not conduct your meeting over the phone? Take advantage of free conference calls to show your new friend you’re ahead of the trend when it comes to making life easier, increasing the likelihood your first impression will be a great one.
