Working freelance has its rewards but it is not without competition. With the increasing popularity of a location-independent job being a blogger, life-coaching and the like, more and more people are drawn to this career path.
If you are worried about being gobbled up by competition, there are ways to get back on track. Here are some tips not to get distracted:
1. Take a step ahead of them.
Did you know that those who make it in freelancing and earn more are people who have taken the extra mile to work harder? And not all freelancers are like that. There are those who are content with finishing some work done and rest for the day. Once you take this to heart, you can find clients to work for.
2. Realise your uniqueness.
If you are scared your clients will hire others instead of you, say, as a freelance writer, you need not be. This is because every freelance writer has his or her own style and tone. A competitor might be good in writing about finance and you might be an excellent travel or fashion writer. Moreover, there is a myriad of niches you can write about. Know what you are good at and concentrate on it. Better yet, explore other niches and broaden your horizon.
3. Avoid comparing yourself to others.
Some may be better than you but that does not mean you are in a cul-de-sac. Perhaps, you are a better writer when it comes to other niches. Stop comparing your writing style to that of other writers. Doing so will only intimidate you and this can affect your work. Simply do your best in every job given to you and don’t let envy eat you up.
Freelancing is not an easy job but it can be a lucrative way to earn a living. So, the next time the fear of competition looks you in the eye, face it head on and use these tips to overcome it.
