The basic problem is that can happen is that someone at work not only does he not appear to be nice, but he does not even making any effort to become one. If you find yourself dealing with an obnoxious colleague at work who is also a woman, the problems increase because the representatives of the fairer sex can give you real trouble at times. Keeping your cool as a professional

The first tip is useful to remember that in the workplace you must always be well-disposed towards colleagues and avoid the unnecessary tensions. Keep  an eye the ones causing disturbances because it means that the person is acting unprofessional and is affecting the efficiency of the company. In any kind of provocation that a nasty colleague can drag you to, silence is the best answer. If you really are unable to take it, jokes may be the best way to react without undermining the serenity of the office.

If possible, avoid any direct confrontation. In the first place, it will not give you any satisfaction, and secondly, you should do so to avoid worsening the situation by adding more friction. You have to shrug your shouldres and put on a big smile and just let it go, to the extent you can take it. Use silence instead and don’t badmouth the person with other colleagues, because it might brand you as the one who is always ready to play the victim.

What you should never allow, however, is that the unpleasant issues occur on a professional level. In this case, after a deep breath, you need to arm yourself with patience and diplomacy, and then to clarify the issue. It is useful to keep in mind that most of the time the person that is nasty is one that is also insecure, who behaves well to make sure he gets the attention and approval of others at all costs. The best way to stop him is to make him understand that you do not have any intention to hinder him or his work. It is said that a smile can move mountains, and once the unpleasant colleague understands that you do not want to bring any obstacle to his professional ascent, things will surely get better.
